Nesting

Nesting

Nesting is the concept that each senate district will contain two house districts. In this example, the senate district is on the left, and the outline of that district mirrors the two house districts nested within it.

Nesting Example: Fayette, Union, Franklin, Dearborn, Ohio, Switzerland and part of Ripley Counties.

Another example of the benefits of nesting comes from Lake County. Look at the existing map of Lake County's senate districts (left) and house districts (right). There are five senators and ten representatives.

Now look at what could have been. These are the concept maps of Lake County. We have gone from five senators down to four, and from ten representatives down to eight. Note how each senate district contains exactly two house districts.
