The Problem

Issues with current process - The 5 major problems
  1. Lack of respect for communities
  2. Lack of compactness
  3. Lack of competition - gerrymandering
  4. Voter confusion – lack of accessibility
  5. Unnecessarily complicated election administration
Why do these problems exist?
  • Under our current system, the only legal parameter is that the districts be contiguous. This could be interpreted in many different ways.

  • The lack of paramaters or criteria leads to legislative leaders drawing in their and their caucuses own self-interest, and not in the people’s interest.

  •  There also needs to be transparency in the process.

    • The proceedings should be carried live via the web.

    • A full report should be shared with the public and media.

    • The public should be given time to react and respond.
